My younger sister arrived in the United States of America from Guatemala this year. She attended public schools and showed no progress with her academics, and less with her English skills. A friend told me about HorizonScienceAcademy, and I immediately switched her over in the middle of the school year. She was quickly assigned to a very small, intimate ESL class in addition to her regular classes. She also receives individual help from all of her teachers. Every week, she meets with her teachers from each subject-Mathematics, English, Science, and History; as well as a Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Garcia, who helps translate what the staff are saying. Mrs. Garcia also helps my sister with her homework and practicing her English. She has made an amazing amount of progress in such a short time because of the help she receives from the staff at Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati.

My daughter is about to start third grade at Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati. We moved to Cincinnati from out of state and she struggled to adjust. She was scared and falling behind academically. Her teachers at Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati saw that she needed help and worked with her one-on-one to build her confidence and help her reach her potential. My daughter is so lucky that she has teachers who care so much about her well-belling. They reached out to her so quickly-it was clear that they pay close attention to their students. Thanks to the staff, my daughter believes in herself and that is all it takes for a student to succeed.

She is so lucky to be at a school like Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati.

I think Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati is a good school and recommend anyone that wants their child to go there. The staff is good there, they make sure the students are pushed to exceed and excel in everything they do. It starts from K-12 and even has it where they are geared towards college prep courses to prepare them for the world. They have clubs for kids attend weekly. They have secured, locked doors during the school day. The school stays very clean and in excellent condition. Every time I come to Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati, I was greeted with a smile which makes me feel comfortable in knowing that my children are safe. The faculty is wonderful and they truly care about each student individually and know them by their name. The teachers make it their business to have a relationship with the parents and keep them involved with our children’s school work and what they are doing and what needs to be done. My child has a problem cause at birth, but with the help of their IEP teachers and the rest of the staff, my child has come a long way. They have classes that most schools do not. I love this school and the teachers, deans, etc. They talk to me as a person, not as an outsider. Students wear uniforms, but on certain days they get to dress down which makes them happy. They have themes that allow the kids to wear certain colors or piece of clothing like a hat, sports jerseys and pajamas for elementary students; like no other school. Overall, Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati cares about the success in the students. The school has small classes which enables the staff to know the students and encourages them daily. This school is wonderful and if you want your child to succeed in everything they want to be in life, HorizonScienceAcademy is the school for them.

In February, I brought my brother from Guatemala to Cincinnati to live with me. Our cousins were already enrolled at Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati, so I enrolled him there too. At first, he really struggled with learning English and participating in classes, but almost immediately, his teachers created a plan for him to be better integrated into the school; both socially and academically. They arranged for several tutors to meet with him each, as well as the teachers from each of his classes. They all collaborated with the Spanish teacher, Mrs. Garcia, to help him get up to speed with the material in the class and his academic skills. Mrs. Garcia served as a translator and tutor for him. She and his other teachers work with him every week to help advance his English and progress in school. He is also in a small ESL class, where he is joined by other students who are in the same situation. Together, they have formed a close bond which has helped build their confidence at school. He has come so far from where he started, and he would not have been able to do it without the help of his teachers. It is clear the staff cares about their students as they dedicate so much of their personal time to help kids who are struggling. I really appreciate everything that Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati has done for my brother.

Thank you.

I have two daughters at Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati. Before they went there, they attended Cincinnati Public Schools. My youngest daughter was only in Kindergarten, so she displayed little struggle in school, but her older sister had a very difficult time. She did not understand the material and I did not know how to help her. I switched both of them over to Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati and the teachers immediately saw that she was having trouble. They decided to offer her daily tutoring and assistance from teachers whenever she needed it. Because tutoring is after school and I do know have a car, Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati arranged for free yellow bus transportation for her to get home from school. I am so thankful that Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati has given my daughters a second chance at a strong education with such committed teachers.

I am a supporter of Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati. I was attending on of the PTO meetings and was impressed with the number of individuals involved in the future and success of the school. The agenda was organized to address benefits of becoming a member of the PTO, officers and volunteers. The activities of the PTO included: Homecoming, Thanksgiving Dinner, Canned Food Drive, Bake Sales, and a T-shirt contest. These educators are serious about the progress of the school, as well as the educational involvement of the families with the institution. Please be advised that we are expecting growth.

Before going to Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati, my two oldest sons went to Cincinnati Public Schools. They struggled a lot there and made very little progress academically. There, the younger of the two was promoted to the second grade, even though he did not know how to write his own name. I was shocked that his teachers from that school did not pay enough attention to realize that he was not ready to move forward without special attention. They did not show any desire to help him or investigate why he was having such a hard time. At that point, I switched both of my sons to Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati. Teachers quickly noticed my younger son’s trouble with reading, writing, and learning in general. They conducted some tests and discovered that he had a learning disability. As soon as they figured out what was wrong, they moved him back on track. Even still, he received endless support from his teachers. He currently sees a special education teacher, regular teachers, a speech therapist, and an ESL Teacher for daily assistance with his class work, homework, and any other projects or skills he may need help with. Since switching to Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati, he has shown a huge amount of progress and his overall interest in school and learning has increased. Thanks to the teachers’ interest and dedication, he where is where he is today. I am glad to be part of the Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati family.

I am a parent of three students at Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati. My oldest is in the seventh grade this year and it is his third year attending this school. I am very pleased with this school as all of my children have shown improvements since attending. All of the teachers and staff are very dedicated and open to communication with parents. Last year, many teachers volunteered their time for tutoring and after school clubs; which included a science club that one of my children was able to attend. He was able to go to the CONSEF Science Fair in Cleveland, Ohio along with several other students. Transportation for most of the students was provided by Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati.

I chose to send my son to Horizon because of their academic programs, strong principal & excellent teachers. My son has loved science since birth. I decided to send him to Horizon Science Academy because I knew he would be challenged and encouraged to continue in science, math and technology. I love how the teachers & parents are encouraged to work together, so that not one child gets left behind. The principal & teachers go beyond what is expected. For example…. teachers with their families meet students and their family at various activities. It brings us all together. I am very proud of my son s accomplishments and the teachers/principal at Horizon Science Academy.

Horizon Science Academy is like a breath of fresh air. The school is completely organized and student-centered. Teamwork is huge between staff and students. Horizon Science Academy really is one big family!

One of my children was not able to attend preschool or Head Start.  When his mother saw that he could now write his name by himself was amazed.  Then he read book about fall to his parents that we were making in class.  His mother was so excited she began to cry.  The whole family is excited that they are learning so much at Horizon!

Last night a mother told me that she had been frustrated when her children attended another school.  She felt that they just did not get a good education.  Since she has enrolled her children at Horizon she believes she has found the school where all her children will grow and learn.  We are their new school home.

Mrs. Gibson (Elijah) said that he is excited about going to UC to do the AP Biology labs and that he is really enjoying them. She said she really appreciates me working with them.

Mrs. Cole (Zeke) said she remembers when the school was a religious institution (she worked for them for 2 years before they sold the building to Concept Schools) and Zeke used to run up and down the halls here. My room was an organization called Accept. And this building has been prayed over many times.

Michael Graham’s mother stated that she was happy that Michael is here. She is impressed with the dedication of the staff and she feels that she made the right decision in placing him here. Both she and he are looking forward to the basketball season and she will be one of the parent volunteers.

Parent testimonials: my most comment- I love this school very much because the teachers there really care also my oldest son Cheikh has been going there for four years and he also loves the school, I’m really happy with his  grades and I truly support the school.

My name is Cheikh Kane and I am a senior at horizon science academy and I have been attending horizon for 4 years now, my absolute favorite thing about this school is the fact that we can always rely on our teachers when ever we need them including the weekends, the school offers things like Saturday school which really helps when preparing for state tests such as the SAT, ACT, and even the OGT also we have a student exchange program where we can go and visit turkey which I was privileged enough to attend this year, I rate this school a 5/5 star school

My name is Gayle Little and I’m a Junior at Horizon Science Academy. The reason why I like this school because its a really nice school to get you prepared for college. They give you all the skills you need to be sucessful in life. Horizon is surrounded by positive people and that makes me comfortable.I like how all the teachers know your name and they will actually work with you and the really care about stuff thats going on with you outside of school.

I am a proud parent of three children who currently attend Horizon Science Academy- Cincinnati.   I have two children who are in middle school and one who is experiencing her first year in high school.  Horizon Science Academy has been a great experience for us.  The teachers are very understanding and helpful with student. They understand that each student learns differently, and each day several tutoring sessions are held to give students the extra help they need.  There are also many after school clubs held that allow students to become involved in things that interest them.  Students are also given the opportunity to visit many places that are not traditionally offered in public school.  This is only the second year we have been with Horizon and we look forward to many more years to come.  Thanks Horizon for giving extra support to the students and showing them that you care.

The proud parent, Mrs. Tawana Learyz.

Horizon is a great school for the college minded student. It challenges and prepares you for what college has to offer. The teachers are excellent and the administration is dedicated to providing it’s students with a top notch education. Students equate graduating from Horizon Science Academy with going to college.

We chose this school for our child over the public school, as it was not meeting her needs as an advanced student. She has been much happier at horizon due to being around children who behave much better than the children in the public school, as well as the more challenging curriculum. The teachers seem to care a great deal about the students, and they have certainly met my child’s needs. I would recommend it to anyone seeking an alternative to an ailing public school. What was said above about the teacher being new out of college is not the case at all…perhaps it was when written, but the teachers I see there now are a good mix of older and younger, Americans, whites, blacks, etc. It’s a very inclusive school, and a great environment. It is also not unsafe as the student above said. They take discipline very seriously.

I think that Horizon has been an excellent experience for my son for the past few years. The teachers have a genuine concern for the students. My goal is to become involved this year as a parent. My son was able to travel to Turkey this summer. I feel this was the opportunity of a lifetime. I am truly grateful to Horizon for giving my son this opportunity. I would like to see more of a distinction between grade school versus high school. I would like my son to have that experience. Over all great school!

This school teaches you more than what regular schools teach you. You not only learn academics, you also learn about culture, yourself, you learn about the future really

Horizon’s strongest point is the teachers’ quality and their teaching ethics. Teachers at HSA really care for each student’s achievement and personality. They understood my son’s weakness and strength from the beginning and patiently guided him through the middle school years: my son’s strongest area grew beyond the high school level and the weakest area is improving with remarkable speed. My son has been very lucky to be enrolled at HSA. It is truly a ‘diamond in rough.

Horizon Science Academy has given more opportunities to our children than we ever thought possible in their education. While it is still a new school, working out a few kinks, it has been amazing to watch the school grow and watch our children grow with it. The leadership in the school is awesome. They are so involved with the students, this isn’t just thru the school year but throughout the winter, spring and summer breaks. They really take the time out to get to know your child. The test scores speak for themselves. Academically the children have soared. We travel quite a distance for our children to go to HSA, but we feel we’ve made a good choice for them. They are certainly getting to enjoy the benefits of that choice. Our 9th grader is going to Turkey for the second time!
