The Horizon Academy Second graders took a field trip to Parky’s farm, and they traveled back in time to the 1800’s. The students were greeted by a woman from our time, but then she explained to the students the difference between what we have now versus what they had back in the 1800’s. The students then heard a ringing sound and then had to sit in their seats for the start of school. The school Marm came and re-arranged the children with the boys in the front and the girls in the back. The boys were the profitable gender back in that time period, so they were given special treatment. The students learned about how hard it was to be a child back then by being able to live in the past for a few hours. The activities the children participated in were: playing with wooden toys, sheering sheep and making wool bracelets, feeding the chickens, brushing their pony, and learning some traditional dances. The children had a great time and really enjoyed learning about what life was like for a child back in 1800’s. I believe they learned to appreciate all the wonderful advances in technology that we have now!
