Dear HSAC Families,
I hope this letter finds you well, even during this uncertain time. We certainly are experiencing
some unprecedented events. I want to thank everyone in advance for your support, patience,
flexibility, and understanding during this time. The Administrative Team of HSAC has made the
decision to continue virtual learning for the remainder of the first semester. The second quarter
begins on October 19 th – December 18, 2020.
We all want to get back to the classroom environment, but the risks to the health and safety of
our scholars and staff is too great at this point in time. When it is safe to do so, we will make
decisions on returning to an in-person classroom environment with the guidance and support of
our area health departments.
Our virtual learning has been a success and we will continue to provide support to our families.
We have distributed chrome books to all scholars as well as hotspots. All important
information about the continuation of virtual learning can be found on the school website
(horizoncincy.org), Facebook (Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati) and Instagram
(hsacincinnati). Because of your diligence to our virtual program, our attendance rate average is
at 92%. Our scholars have been working extremely hard completing 1450 self-study hours in a
week, as well as being present in class for more than 774 hours of live teaching.
Please be mindful that we have a different calendar than Cincinnati Public Schools. I have
attached the academic calendar to this letter for your reference. I encourage every family to
continue to work with your scholars and teachers, during virtual learning. It truly takes a village
to keep our scholars encouraged and uplifted. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any
additional questions or for clarity.
Mrs. Marie A. Taylor, M.Ed.
