Horizon Science Academy Cincinnati hosted a speaker, K.Carl Smith, to come from Birmingham, Alabama to speak to our 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students about Frederick Douglass in several assemblies held on March 21st.
K.Carl Smith challenged our students to define where their inalienable rights come from. He was a dynamic speaker whose presentation was conducted in a question-and-answer format to encourage our students to think about how their rights are protected. He stressed, through presenting Frederick Douglass as an example, that one person could achieve a high standard of living, and even though he fought against the odds of slavery, his life could be admired even in the light of today’s standards.
Our students asked our speaker many questions, and were educated on the details of one of America’s founding fathers, as well as encouraged to want to achieve excellence!
