Horizon Science Academy – Cincinnati hosted Dr. Whitney Gaskins on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. Dr. Gaskins is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at University of Cincinnati. She is a mentor, adviser, and community activist and has dedicated her life to motivation and philanthropic endeavors. She is the founder of The Gaskins Foundation, which provides extraordinary opportunities for under recognized and under-represented youth. One of the main programs of the foundation, STEMulates is a community-centered program, designed to increase the number of engineers and applied scientists in the Cincinnati area over the next 20 years.
During her visit, Dr. Gaskins read to our 1st grade students. She met with our CYSP and Science Fair students to talk about the importance of science in our life. She shared her story about how she became a professor of medical engineering. Dr. Gaskins talked to some of our science fair students about their projects. Our students really enjoyed their time with a very successful professor.
